Symposium Chaire UNESCO DCMÉT 2022
Date de l’évènement:
mar, 2022/10/25 - ven, 2022/10/28
Lieu(ou Endroit):
VALPARAISO - CHILE; ONLINE

Running October 25-28, 2022, on Zoom, Facebook Live, and in person in Valparaíso, Chile, the symposium will welcome attendees to 40 diverse live sessions, including plenaries, panels, and roundtable discussions in English, French and Spanish. After the first DCMÉT Symposium, which took place on May 17-21, 2021, online through Zoom, Facebook, and YouTube, the 2022 symposium has shifted its centre to South America, and will have 18 sessions in Spanish, 9 in French, and 9 in English. Access to all sessions (in 2021 and 2022) is free, with no registration costs.

The Symposium aims to provide a platform for dialogue while examining contemporary issues at the intersection of debates in democracy, global citizenship, and transformative education. The Symposium invites a network of multi-/inter-/trans-disciplinary researchers, thought leaders, activists and civil society members from the North and the South to share ideas, perspectives and proposals in diverse formal, non-formal, and informal social sectors. It is a collective project of reflection, discussion and co-creation of knowledge.

Last year’s symposium resulted in diverse collaborative projects that extended beyond the symposium, including a final synthesis report, a book titled The Epicenter: Democracy, Eco*Global Citizenship and Transformative Education / L’épicentre : Démocratie, Éco*Citoyenneté mondiale et Éducation transformatoire / El Epicentro: Democracia, Eco*Ciudadanía Mundial y Educación Transformadora, and an archive of all of the sessions recorded (now accessible on the YouTube channel). The 2022 symposium hopes to continue this tradition with new projects inspired by the dialogue that emerge from this year’s sessions.

The 2022 UNESCO Chair DCMÉT Symposium is possible, in significant part, thanks to the tremendous support of its partners, which include: UNESCO, CCUNESCO, PUCV, UQO, UQAM, SSRCH, FRQ, APCEIU, CIRCEM, Centr'ÉRE, UNAM, AQOCI and others.

Presenters for the 2022 DCMÉT Symposium include those from some 25 countries, and a range of themes, including the environment, Indigenous rights and culture, social media, democratic change, global citizenship, transformative education, citizen participation, anti-racism and media literacy, will be discussed. Participants in the 2021 Symposium came from more than 70 countries.
