International Webinar: Reorienting teacher education to address sustainability

The Health, Outdoor, Physical Education (HOPE) Subject Area of the Faculty of Education, at the University of Regina through the support of the HOPE Student Association is pleased to provide an international experience for undergraduate pre-service teachers to add their voices to the global discussion on Reorienting Teacher Education to Address Sustainability.

 

This experience is for those individuals studying to become teachers and is an extension of the work being conducted through the UNESCO Chair on Reorienting Teacher Education to Address Sustainability.

 

The International Webinar will:

 • Introduce undergraduate pre-service teachers with knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that empower them to contribute to education for sustainable development (ESD); • Involve the international pre-service teacher education community to consider plans or strategies to reorient teacher education to address sustainability;

 • Expanded awareness of the importance of the pre-service teacher’s role in professional development;

 • Give recognition to the significance of networking in enhancing educational practice for education for sustainable development;

 • Enhance understanding that teacher education programs, which address education for sustainable development (ESD), are key to improving principles and practices necessary to respond effectively to current and future challenges related to ecological and social justice;

 • Reaffirm how interdisciplinary, experiential and place-based learning assists in actualizing education for sustainable development (ESD);

 • Allow undergraduate pre-service teachers to gain a heighten awareness of how national and international regions view pre-service teacher education and the role education for sustainable development (ESD) plays in curricula and pedagogy; and,

 • Encourage continued dialogue amongst pre-service teachers regarding the integral nature of (ESD) in order to contribute positively to environmental, cultural, social, and economic sustainability.
