On 29 October 2020, over 70 UNESCO learning cities from Asia Pacific will launch a regional network to enhance collaboration with a view to strengthening lifelong learning at urban level. It is the first formal regional network within the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC). The launch will take place within the framework of the 2020 Yeonsu Asia Pacific GNLC Network Conference, organized by the Korean Association of Lifelong Learning Cities (KALLC) and the Korea National Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the Korean National Institute for Lifelong Education.
The network seeks to provide a platform for policy dialogue and peer learning, new partnerships, and capacity development. Members will also document effective strategies and best practice and develop tools and instruments to design, implement and monitor lifelong learning strategies at urban level – especially in times of COVID-19 where building a ‘new-normal’ is in need of joint discussion.
In addition to the launch of the regional network, the Korean translation of the fourth UNESCO Global Report on Adult Learning and Education will be launched.
