Advanced training workshop on education for sustainable development for teachers and educators in Asian-Pacific Region

The main objective of the training workshop is to share best practices and empower participants and their institutions with skills to mainstream ESD at national level. It further aims to scale up ESD implementation at all levels, formal and non-formal education. The training aims to connect the linkages and synergies between ESD GAP and the 17 SDGs and in particular target SDG4.7 on education for sustainable development.

 

The 1st Advanced Training on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for Teachers in Asia and Pacific Region is organized by the China National Working Committee for UNESCO Project on ESD in close collaboration UNESCO Beijing Office and supported by the UNESCO Regional Education Bureau in Bangkok, ESD Section at UNESCO headquarters, China Ministry of Education, China National Commission for UNESCO, the Education Bureau of Tongzhou District of Beijing.

 

The regional training workshop is implemented within the framework of the UNESCO Global Action Programme (GAP) on ESD, SDG 4.7 and 2014 Aichi-Nagoya Declaration on ESD in further deepening and mainstreaming of ESD at all levels.

 

The training workshop initiative is a direct contribution to the one of the five Priority Action Areas of the ESD GAP focused on building capacities of educators and trainers in ESD. Ensuring efficient implementation of the GAP in ESD to equip teachers, educators and trainers with the necessary knowledge, skills, methods, strategies, values, motivation and commitment to mainstream and institutionalize ESD teaching and learning processes, and to make education relevant and responsive to today’s global challenges and to help society in general transition to sustainability.

 

The training workshop will be comprised of an Asian-Pacific experts’ on ESD, a consultative forum on information sharing of best practices and policy dialogue on ESD and capacity building of principals and teachers and educators to contribute to the scaling-up and implementation of GAP at regional and country level. The four-day Asia Pacific ESD conference for Asia and the Pacific region is expected to attract up to 250 international and Chinese participants for the consultative ESD forum and 80 educators and teachers shall participate in the ESD training workshop.
