On 6 July 2021, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), together with the Permanent Mission of the Slovakian Republic to the United Nations, the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), Bridge 47, and the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, will jointly host a virtual side event, ‘The importance of SDG target 4.7 for a just and sustainable future in the post-COVID era’ at the High-Level Political Forum of the United Nations.

The upcoming side event will explore what role transformative education can play in responding to the global challenges, risks and trends of the future, and what capacities, skills and knowledge are needed to cope with the changing realities, in and beyond a pandemic recovery. During two panel exchanges and an open discussion, speakers and participants will look at how global citizenship education can support transformative education, critical thinking, (media) literacy, and education for human rights and civic participation in times of health crises. Werner Mauch, UIL team leader for Monitoring and Assessment of Lifelong Learning, will be among the event’s speakers.
