The French Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with UNESCO, is holding an international conference on school bullying on November 5, 2020. The online conference aims to build global momentum to end bullying in schools by raising awareness of the issue, sharing what works to address it, and mobilizing governments, experts and the educational community. It builds on the commitments made at the meeting of G7 Ministers of Education under the French Presidency in July 2019, and will contribute to the new International day against violence and bullying at school, including cyberbullying, on 5 November 2020.

Bullying in schools deprives millions of children and young people of the fundamental right to education. A recent UNESCO report reveals that more than 30% of the world's students have been victims of bullying, with devastating consequences on academic achievement, school drop out, and physical and mental health. The confinement imposed as part of the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in an unprecedented increase in screen time by children and adolescents, and likely exacerbated the issue.
