Bridge 47 and the Irish Development Education Association (IDEA) are delighted to invite you to the workshop on a Code of Good Practice for Development Education - which will take place virtually on 13 April 2021, 14:00-15:00 UTC.

This session will provide a short introduction to the Code of Good Practice for Development Education in Ireland which is the first of its kind globally. Launched by IDEA in 2019, the Code was jointly developed by IDEA members who are Development Education/Global Citizenship Education practitioners in a wide range of settings and sectors including schools, youth work, adult & community education, community project and overseas development NGOs.

In the IDEA network, we see quality Development Education and Global Citizenship Education as more important than ever, and as education practitioners, our role must be responsive to a turbulent and changing global environment. This requires us to continuously challenge our own thinking, re-examine our focus, and to critically evaluate whether what we are doing makes a difference. The Code represents a collective agreement to both strengthen and articulate quality Development Education across all of our work. The Code is an expression of what IDEA members have in common: a commitment to protecting the integrity of Development Education through our own good practice. Progress towards the Code’s Principles is tracked through 12 principles and related practice Indicators, focusing on educational and organisational practices.
