The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) urges all heads of Government to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030. Localizing SDG4 targets into national priorities and sector plans requires realignment and repositioning of the existing national education sector plans, policies, financing and monitoring frameworks.

In this context, UNESCO Tashkent office and DVV International in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education and the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and with participation of the Senate, the Ministry of Labor, State Testing Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan, private sector and development partners are organizing the National Conference on Lifelong Learning to unpack two main topics: Rethinking Education in the context of the current reform in Uzbekistan: policy, quality and lifelong learning; Empowering community learning centers: international trends and best practices.

The discussion will focus on key policy strategies, targets, indicators, and actions needed to re-vision the education system in Uzbekistan.
The expected outcomes are to:

- raise awareness of national stakeholders (duty bearers) on the global trends for education re-visioning in the context of SDGs;
- increase understanding of successful practices in non-formal education, including the ones focused on developing the 21st century skills such as digital literacy;
- review and reflect on the draft National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Lifelong Learning (NSLLL) for further fine-tuning;
- agree on the actionable and feasible steps for the advancement and empowerment of the national CLCs towards SDG4-Education2030.
