School closures, across Canada and globally, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic present an unprecedented challenge for the education and well-being of children. Education systems are grappling with difficult and uncertain trade-offs as they consider easing restrictions and preparing for the reopening of schools. The purpose of the Advisory Committee of Deputy Ministers of Education (ACDME) Special Session on K-12 is to draw on international experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic to facilitate pan-Canadian discussions on the reopening of schools, and support provincial and territorial preparations for the fall 2020.
