Launch of UNESCO and OSCE/ODIHR training curricula on addressing anti-Semitism in schools

As part of their joint efforts to address anti-Semitism, UNESCO and OSCE/ODIHR are publishing a four volume set of training curricula, designed for trainers of (1) primary school teachers, (2) secondary school teachers, (3) vocational school teachers, and (4) school directors. The curricula were developed with the support of the University College London Centre for Holocaust Education, as part of ODIHR’s Turning Words into Action to Address anti-Semitism project and within the framework of UNESCO’s programme on Global Citizenship Education. They are closely based on UNESCO and ODIHR’s guidelines for policymakers on “Addressing anti-Semitism through Education”, published in 2018.

 

The online launch will include a panel discussion on the topic of “The importance of education in addressing anti-Semitism” with the participation of

  • Maram Stern, Executive Vice President, World Jewish Congress
  • Sharon Nazarian, Senior Vice President of International Affairs, ADL
  • Stuart Foster, Executive Director, Center for Holocaust Education, University College London

Followed by a presentation of the framework curricula by

  • Ruth-Anne Lenga, Programme Director, Centre for Holocaust Education, University College London
  • Arthur Chapman, Associate Professor in History Education, Centre for Holocaust Education, University College London

 

The event will be opened by Katarzyna Gardapkhadze, Officer-in-Charge, OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights  and Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director General for Education and  Ambassador Michaela Küchler, International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance Chair. It will be be moderated by Stephen Smith, Executive Director, USC Shoah Foundation and UNESCO Chair for Genocide Education and Kishan Manocha, Head, Tolerance and Non-Discrimination Department, ODIHR.

 

The event will be held in English.
