On the eve of the International Day of Non-Violence, 2 October, UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) and India’s Permanent Delegations to UNESCO are hosting the talk featuring an exchange between a hologram of the Mahatama Gandhi and the following experts: Anantha Duraiappah, Director of UNESCO MGIEP, and Grégoire Borst,Professor of developmental psychology and neurocognitive development and school learning, CNRS (France’s National Centre for Scientific Research), Vera El Khoury Lacoeuilhe, Member of Advisory board of UNESCO MGIEP’s TECH 2019.
The event will take place in Room I at UNESCO Headquarters, Tuesday, 1 October at 6pm, registration starting at 5.30 pm. An exchange with the public will close the Lecture and be followed by high tea.
About the Ahinsa Lecture Series
Ahinsa is derived from Sanskrit word hims meaning injury and its opposite (a-hiṃsā meaning without any injury). It refers to the ethical philosophy of non-violence popularized by one of its greatest champions, Mahatma Gandhi. Introduced in 2016, the Ahinsa Lectures are delivered by leading proponents of peace and non-violence for the benefit of peace builders, policy makers, UNESCO Member States, youth and the international community. The Ahinsa Lecture is organized to mark the International Day of Non-Violence celebrated on 2 October, the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth.
