Comprometidos is one of the main UNESCO initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean within the framework of the UNESCO operational strategy on youth 2014-2021, specifically Axis 3: Civic engagement, democratic participation and social innovation.
Comprometidos is an initiative that seeks to actively engage youth from Latin America and the Caribbean with the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. It is organized by UNESCO’s Regional Bureau of Science for Latin America and the Caribbean – UNESCO Montevideo, jointly with Ashoka and Socialab since 2015.
Comprometidos empowers youth as changemakers through an online platform that provides webinars, personalized support and mentoring, as well as exchange spaces between youth. Yearly, representatives of the best initiatives travel for a week of in-person intensive training.
In its five editions, Comprometidos’ platform received 3631, therefore engaging over 10.000 young man and women; over 120 young from 20 Latin-American countries have partaken in the one week training in Argentina.
This year, with the global context of crisis and sanitary emergency, our young changemakers from Comprometidos are facing several types of challenges: funding cuts, difficulties in carrying put daily tasks due to confinement measures, lack of resources, even some had to end their projects. With social problems on the rise around them, their initiatives become even the more relevant. Facing this COVID-19 crisis, it is paramount to keep supporting our young changemakers.
Comprometidos 2020 consists of a virtual program where former Comprometidos participants can connect with each other, build up bonds and strengthen this community of young changemakers; accompany them in their projects through mentoring and training intended for the improvement of their projects and their own personal growth.
Comprometidos 2020 offers a virtual space of accompaniment during 3 months where young changemakers that have already participated from Comprometidos can connect with each other to exchange experiences and information. In the platform changemakerxchange.org up to 100 Latin American young men and women from Comprometidos will have exclusive access to activities and challenges, talks and trainings, webinars, peer-to-peer sessions, debate forums, individual and group mentoring, and more!
