Event Date:
Tue, 2023/12/19 - Thu, 2023/12/21

Date: from 19 to 21 December 2023

Venue: UNESCO Headquarters – Paris – France

The Third Cycle of Periodic Reporting is coming to an end with Europe and North America which embarked on this core exercise of monitoring the implementation of the World Heritage Convention since September 2022. One of the main outcomes of the cycle will be the Regional Action Plan, for which the national focal points of the region will meet from 19 to 21 December 2023 at UNESCO Headquarters.

Around a hundred participants, including the designated national focal points of the States Parties in the region, are invited to take part in this workshop to draw up the Regional Action Plan for the next six to eight years, which will be presented to the World Heritage Committee at its 46th session in 2024, based on the preliminary results of the analysis of the periodic reports submitted by the States Parties in the region at the end of July 2023.

The three-day workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to engage in discussions on the factors most affecting the state of conservation of World Heritage properties in the region, exchange ideas and practices, identify common challenges and shape a Regional Action Plan reflecting shared aspirations. The workshop will be co-facilitated by independent experts, the Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Committee (ICOMOS, ICCROM and IUCN), the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe and the World Heritage Centre.

The working languages of the meeting will be English and French, and interpretation will also be provided in these two languages.
