How to improve governance through electronic resources?

 

The 13th International Conference on Electronic Governance begins. Promoted by ICEGOV, the United Nations and the University of the Aegean and Harokopio in Athens the conference aims to strengthen the use of new technologies

 

From 23rd to 25th September 2020, the 13th edition of the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance, entitled “ICEGOV 2020 - Digital Governance in the Era of Disruptive Technologies and Globalization”. This year’s conference organized by ICEGOV, in collaboration with the University of the Aegean, the Harokopio University of Athens and the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) will take place online, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Under the main theme Digital Governance in the Era of Disruptive Technologies and Globalisation, ICEGOV 2020 will promote the interaction of people from all over the world and different sectors, such as academia, government, industry, and international organisations.

 

On Thursday, September 24, (from 15:00 to 17: 00 Eastern European Time) the session endorsed by UNESCO Montevideo entitled, ‘Open Justice and Transparency in a Digital Age: Strengthening the Judicial Systems to Achieve Peaceful, Just, and Inclusive Societies will take place with the participation of six international experts.

 

Speakers include Magistrates Ricardo Pérez Manrique, Judge at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and former Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay; Magistrate Pedro Félix Álvarez de Benito, Director of the Department of the International Relations Service of the General Council of the Judicial Power of Spain, Gherman Welsch, Director of the Planning and Strategic Coordination Unit of the Attorney General, Public Ministry of Chile; Deputy General Secretary María Luísa Pacheco, representing Conference of Ministers of Justice of Ibero-American Countries (COMJIB); Alexandre Barbosa, Head of the UNESCO Category II Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (CETIC.br) and Guilherme Canela, UNESCO Chief of Section, Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists.

 

This initiative is supported by UNESCO's Multi-Donor Program (MDP) for Freedom of Expression and Safety of Journalists. The program serves to further strengthen UNESCO's work at global, regional and national levels, channeling funds towards emerging priorities and the most urgent needs to fulfill its mandate on freedom of expression.
