National consultation on Sustainable Development Goal 4 localization in Democratic Republic of Korea

The national consultation on Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4)-Education 2030 will be combined with a capacity building training workshop on education statistics and SDG4 indicators. There will be a broader discussion on SDGs implementation and its’ implications during the consultation.

 

The main objective of the workshop is to enhance local institutional capacity to improve education data collection, analysis and reporting for monitoring and evidence based policy development. The capacity-building workshop will contribute to further deepen the localization process of SDG 4-education 2030 Agenda including related SDG4 targets and indicators. The workshop aims to raise awareness and understanding of education stakeholders on SDG4 global and thematic indicators and their methodologies and strengthen national education statistical system to generate and produce required indicators at national level. The second objective is to open the dialogue and raise awareness on the SDGs, SDG4 and related targets and indicators and policy objectives aligned with education 2030 agenda. The third objective is to launch and present the main highlights of the 2016 and 2017 Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Reports to the education stakeholders in DPRK.

 

The Workshop will bring together major stakeholders in education to discuss and analyze key strategies for data collection at national level. Key attendees of the workshop will include government officials, the Academy of Education Science, Central Bureau of Statistics and researchers from universities in DPRK and United Nations staff from various UN Agencies based in DPRK.

 

The workshop is organized in close collaboration with the DPRK Education Commission, DPRK National Commission for UNESCO, UNICEF Country Office in DPRK, UNESCO Beijing office, the UNESCO Institute of Statistics (UIS) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and UN Resident Coordination (UNRC) team in DPRK. Participants will include universities, and government institutions in charge of education data collection.

 

One expert from UIS Bangkok, with the support of the Education Specialist from UNESCO Beijing, Director of UNESCO Beijing Office, UNICEF DPRK Office, UN Country Team (UNCT) in DPRK will conduct the 5-day workshop.
