How can a coherent approach to transformative education, as encompassed in Target 4.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals, help Europe on its path to achieve Agenda 2030? What are the steps needed to mobilise action to make this coherent approach a reality?

This multi-stakeholder event invites European Union policy and decision makers, researchers and civil society to discuss the development of a coherent, European approach to transformative education, as encompassed in Target 4.7 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Transformative education is lifelong learning designed to equip people with the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, through the development of key competencies such as critical thinking and global citizenship.

Transformative education has been anchored by the 2030 Agenda SDG Target 4.7 and is key for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, through ensuring that "all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.”

This online event will include panel exchanges and an open discussion on building bridges between the different thematic areas encompassed in Target 4.7, and how to mobilise action to make a coherent European approach to Target 4.7 possible.
