Event Date:
Thu, 2018/03/15 - Fri, 2018/03/16
Venue:
Paris, France

The meeting is being organized in the context of a UNESCO/UNODC partnership that aims to strengthen the capacities of education systems – and in particular of policy-makers, educators and teachers - to plan and undertake education activities that promote the rule of law.

For two days, the expert consultation meeting will bring together a small group of experts, including teachers, educators, teacher trainers, curricula developers, youth (learners), researchers policy-makers and professionals working in fields of prevention from various sectors to discuss the role of education in the promotion of a culture of lawfulness. UNESCO and UNODC technical teams will also be participating to share their insights on specific items.

Working on the basis of the UN Secretary-General’s definition of the rule of law and UNESCO’s understanding of Global Citizenship Education, the meeting seeks to clarify the conceptual foundation of the UNESCO/UNODC partnership and aims to identify the measures that can be taken by the education sector to promote a culture of lawfulness as well as effective education approaches that nurture learners’ ability to act and engage in society as constructive and ethically responsible agents of change.
The meeting is expected to inform the development of guidance materials for teachers and policy-makers on education for a culture of lawfulness.

Participation is on invitation only.
